Higgins, Jack 002

Jumping was a popular sport in Lancashire before the First World War. In this image can be seen a trainee jumper with his trainer to his right and two timekeepers. The jumper is named as J. Higgins of 1, Kendal Street, Brookhouse. This is then Jack Higgins, the most famous of all Blackburn Jumpers. A series of weights can be seen on a board which would assist with training. The jumping feats no doubt involved betting when the police were absent.
