Fleming Square 012

Old staircase leading to the Colonnade and veranda on Fleming Square. . The Colonnade was originally used as a cloth hall. At the time, most cloth in Blackburn was still woven on the handloom. Power looms were a very recent innovation. The Colonnade was built for John Fleming in 1820, and flanked Fleming Square. The fish stones once stood here. The cloth hall was later tenanted by butchers.
