Fire Engine Darwen 003
1925 image of Darwen's first motorised fire engine, apparently taking part in a parade through the town. The vehicle had a Leyland engine, a Merryweather pump and a Dennis trailer. The assemblage includes an extending ladder and a handbell. Darwen Fire Brigade started in 1876 and by the 1920s employed 18 men at the main station at Charles Street and a substation at Hoddlesden.
