Ellenshaw Mill Darwen 001
Ellenshaw Mill.rnJohn Entwistle's weaving shed, built 1856-57. The mill was leased to Thomas and Joseph Eccles, formerly of Foundary street. The shed contained 272 looms and employed about 199 persons. From 1871 until 1885 the leae was held by the Greenfield Mill Company, although there was a brief underlease to Yates, Cocker and Leach during the period. In 1886 George Walsh of Orchard and Darwen Mills too over enlarging the shed to hold 302 looms three years later. The mill closed in 1942. rnMike Rothwell.
