Darwen Iron Works 001
Darwen Iron Works at Goose House. Erected in 1870 the works had its own shunting engine and railway sidings to move iron ore, coal and finished cast iron products. In 1888 the works employed 110 workers at an average weekly wage of £1. In later years the numbers rose to 200. The works chimney was 200 feet high. Closed in 1927, demolition and site clearance began in 1936.
