Frank Pinder's Dukes Brow Market, listed at 76a Dukes Brow in Barrett's 1930 Blackburn Directory.rnThe 'Dukes Hall' doorway under the street sign is listed in an earlier directory as 1a Alexandra Road. rnThe Blackburn Encyclopedia states the building was originally built for the Dukes Brow Wesleyan School Chapel in 1874. In 1879 the congregation merged with the larger gothic Wesleyan Trinity Chapel on Preston New Road, built in the previous year at a cost of £10,000 and designed by W S Varley of Blackburn.
