Safety notice affixed to the parapet of Darwen Street Bridge, on the outskirts of Blackburn Station. 1988.rnThe notice says: 'All Servants of the Company are hereby warned when crossing this bridge not to walk between the girders but on them'. At one time Railway workers were regarded as servants, reflecting the deferential nature of nineteenth century society.
