Bastfield Mill 001
jb22980. Bastfield mill was built in 1862-63 by James Astley and stands on the banks of the river Blakewater. Astley closed the shed in 1878 and sold it to William Almond and Co. The mill was leased to E & G Hindle in 1885. Automatic looms were introduced in the 1930. E & G Hindle ceased trading in 1959 and the mill shut. The buildings are now used by "Ovalworld", supliers of decorating materials.rnThe photograph was taken in May 1979. Note the brewers dray outside the Plane Tree public house. M31 Bas.
