Bankfield Mill 003

Four story Spinning Mill, erected in 1852-54 by Thomas Firth and J.B Sturdy. A weaving shed was added in 1861. Following a fire in 1875 part of the spinning block was rebuilt and enlarged. A second fire in 1899, destroyed the northern section of the spinning mill.rnE and G Hindle, purchased the complete mill from the executors of Firth in 1900. The surviving spindles were leased to Birtwistle Brothers. In 1905 Hindles took over both departments. Shed extended in 1913. E and G Hindle did not reopen the weaving mill following 1945.Premises since used for engineering. Tape sizing and warehouse building demolished 1984.
