Robert Hogg Ltd, heald and reed manufacturer. rnHeald and reeds were part of the assembly of items making up a complete loom. The reed is a comb-like device for 'beating' the weft (passing left to right). thread into place as it is passed by the shuttle. The warp (back to front) threads passed between the teeth of the reed. The heald raised and lowered the weft to enable the shuttle to pass through it.
