Golf 003

b02756. Billinge Grammar School. W145.rnrnPhotograph information kindly supplied by rnMr Steve Williams, August 2020.rnrnPhotograph taken in the grounds of the then Billinge Grammar School, off Preston New Road in Blackburn, previously Blackburn Technical & Grammar School, later Billinge School and now Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School. The date of the photograph was 1969 (but no later than June 1969), and, I think it was taken by the Blackburn Borough Council official photographer..rnrnBack in 1967, a number of pupils (including myself) formed the Billinge School Golf Club, aided by our Maths Teacher Jack Hampson (a keen golfer). It was mainly for boys of the 4th and 5th Years and Sixth Form (15yrs -18yrs); I don’t recall girls playing or being members. Aided by the school groundsman, a number of us “lads” created four, par three holes complete with tees, bunkers and greens on the side of the school grounds running parallel to Meins Road. rnrnAs for the photograph (Golf 003), the lad on the extreme left is my ‘Golf Partner’ Graham Tattersall who lived at The Bulls Head on Whalley New Road at Wilpshire (now a Co-op Store) - we played in pairs in a League. The lad playing the golf shot is I believe Christopher Nolan from Blackburn. I am third left * but cannot recognise nor recall the lad on the extreme right.rnwww.stevewilliamstalks.co.uk
