Darwen Football Team 001

Darwen F.C. reached the quarter finals of the 1878-79 FA Cup against Old Etonians played at Kennington Oval, London on February 13 1879. At half time the score was 5-1 for the old Etonians. With 15 minutes left the score was 5-3. A scrambled goal made it 5-4, and with virtually the last kick of the match Darwen equalised. The replay on March 8, 1879, again in London finished 2-2 after extra time. Unfortunately the second replay on March 15 finished in a 6-2 defeat for the Darwners.rnThe above photo is of the Darwen team that won the Lancashire Challenge Cup the first time it was offered in the 1879-80 season.
