The Roll of Honour for Darwen has been published on Cotton Town for several years; this work was undertaken by Graham Groom but was not complete.  In 2013, Tony Foster started to research the men on the Springvale Methodist Church War Memorial. Inspired by the information he found Tony continued to work on researching the names and information relating to all men from Darwen who enlisted or were prisoners of war, killed, wounded or died of wounds received during World War One. Over a period of four years Tony worked methodically through the following newspapers:

  • Blackburn Weekly Telegraph
  • The Darwen Advertiser
  • The Darwen Gazette
  • The Darwen News
Other resources Tony used to compile this record include local War Memorials as well as the Commonwealth War Graves Commision website plus "Ancestry" and "Find My Past" for Census records, Medal Cards, and Pension Records.

With grateful thanks to Tony who has kindly allowed Cotton Town to publish the results of his research and extensive endeavours.
