Hoghton Tower, near Blackburn
Hoghton Tower is the closest that Blackburn comes to having a 'castle'. The building is in fact a Tudor mansion, although it originally had a large central tower which was destroyed during the Civil Wars. It seems that the tale of King James I knighting a joint of beef 'Sir Loin' in Hoghton's Great Hall may well be a popular myth, but this doesn't detract from the Tower's romance, standing proudly on its wooded hilltop.
