Cotton Town Launch
19th November 2003
Blackburn Central Library
Cotton Town's been up and running for many months. Thousands have visited the site, but it wasn't until Wednesday November 19th, that it was officially launched. In the weeks running up to that date the minds of the Cotton Town team became increasingly focused on the dead-line and the need to tidy up loose ends and add finishing touches to web pages. In addition all the arrangements for the evening itself had to be finalised.
Hundreds of invitations were sent out to councillors and officials and those who had shown support for the site. Tram expert Jim Halsall was engaged to talk through his Darwen tram-ride which is a feature of the site. Dozens of images taken by the Shaws', early postcard publishers, were mounted and captioned for a display to be mounted in 'The Street.' Publicity packs were prepared, so that guests could take away a souvenir of the evening.
