Mother and Child Statue Returned to Town Centre

A much loved statue of a mother and child has now been returned to the town centre.  It was removed from Lord Square in August 2007 and put into storage while work on the new Mall was completed.  Its new home is Cardwell Place looking towards Northgate.
The statue was the creation of Welsh sculptor Robert Thomas who used his wife Mary and their child Derw as models.  It was erected in Lord Square in 1974 and cost £2,000.  An unveiling ceremony is planned for later in the year featuring the late sculptors wife Mary.
