Grassington, Wharfedale
In 1956, Hartley & Ingilby wrote that "Grassington's main street never fails to surprise and please. It opens out into a small cobbled market-place, narrows between houses, hotels and shops, and with alleys branching from it climbs to Townhead". Grassington's initial prosperity came from the numerous lead mines on the surrounding moors, but nowadays its main function is as a centre for tourists visiting the southern Dales.
