The Grove, Ilkley
Before the mid-19th century, Ilkley was a fairly insignificant village clinging to the edge of the vast Rombalds Moor with its springs of iron-rich mineral water. These proved to be the town's greatest asset, appealing to the Victorian's obsession with healthy living. Ilkley soon became a succesful 'spa town', a popular destination for tourists and convalescents. The Grove was, and still is, Ilkey's most gracious thoroughfare, populated with reassuringly expensive shops and tea rooms.
