Clapham village
A charming scene in the quiet Dales village of Clapham. At the period of the photograph, the whole parish of Clapham-cum-Newby had a population of only 712 people and most of the buildings in the village belonged to the Farrer family of Ingleborough Hall. To the right can be seen the stables of the New Inn, a former coaching establishment. Clapham's current claim to fame is as the home of playwright Alan Bennett.
